It’s hard to believe that there are only a few hours left in 2024! As a miles and points warrior, one thing I love about the start of a new year is that many of my credit card benefits refresh, giving me an opportunity to recoup some or all of my annual fees on different credit cards (and even sometimes make a profit).
With that, below are the credit card benefits that I’m planning to take advantage of on January 1, 2025 to ring in the new year:
1. $200 on Dell with my American Express Business Platinum card. The Amex Business Platinum card has a $400 annual Dell credit, which you get twice per year ($200 in January-June and then again in July-December). I’ve used this credit to buy Bose speakers, video games, and a new travel backpack in the past, and will probably use it to buy video games this year.
2. $200 on my United TravelBank with my American Express Business Platinum card. The Amex Business Platinum card comes with a $200 Airline Fee Credit and even though this credit is meant for incidental charges, United TravelBank purchases have triggered this credit for me in the past (and I’m hoping for the same in 2025).
3. $50 on Hilton by purchasing a gift card with my American Express Business Platinum card. Amex recently added a $200 per year Hilton credit (earned in $50 quarterly increments) and I wrote about how purchasing a Hilton gift card with my Amex Business Platinum card triggered this credit, so I’ll be doing this again on January 1st.
4. $60 on Hilton by purchasing a gift card with my American Express Hilton Honors Business card. This card offers a $240 per year Hilton credit (earned in $60 quarterly increments) and I also recently wrote about how purchasing a Hilton gift card on my Amex Hilton Honors Business card triggered this benefit, which I’ll be doing again tomorrow.
5. $50 on United by purchasing a plane ticket with my American Express Hilton Honors Aspire card. My Aspire card comes with a $200 flight credit (earned in $50 quarterly increments) and I’ve been holding off buying a plane ticket until tomorrow so I can take advantage of the quarterly credit. I am starting to get curious as to whether a United TravelBank purchase would trigger this credit, and I may try that out for Q2 2025.
6. $20 on GrubHub with my American Express Business Gold card. My recently acquired Amex Business Gold card comes with a $20 monthly GrubHub credit, and I try to use it on the 1st of each month so that I don’t forget about it.
7. $10 on DoorDash with my Chase Sapphire Preferred card. The Chase Sapphire Preferred card comes with a $10 monthly credit for non-restaurant purchases (think Target or groceries) for DashPass members. This is another credit that I try to take advantage of on the 1st of each month, otherwise I might forget about it.
While there are other benefits that reset on January 1st offered in my 11-card portfolio, these are the benefits that I plan on taking advantage of tomorrow. And just going through this wish makes me wish many of these credits were offered annually and not quarterly or semi-annually, but I’m sure credit card companies prefer this setup as it makes it less likely customers will take advantage of the benefit.
What credit card benefits are you looking forward to having refreshed at the start of 2025?
