According to multiple reports, The St. Regis Princeville Resort on the Hawaiian island of Kauai will be leaving the Marriott family of properties and ditching the St. Regis brand, effective November 16, 2018.
This absolutely stunning property was purchased by Starwood Capital for $225 million in July.
According to The Garden Island (Kauai’s local newspaper),
“Starwood Capital is reportedly planning to convert the St. Regis, which has lost some of its luxury lustre in recent years, into an even higher-end and more-exclusive resort catering to the extremely wealthy.”
I visited the St. Regis Princeville Resort almost a year ago, and absolutely loved the property and the complimentary champagne sunset. A friend of mine, who grew up with money and is use to a much higher level of service than myself, was at the property a few months back, and said it was looking run down.
So, while I’m sure these renovations will be welcome for those who can afford a stay, making away from the St. Regis (and associated Marriott) brand will take away the ability to book the hotel using Starwood points.
