When you’re staying at a luxury hotel, you can usually expect attentive staff, delicious food, comfortable beds, and thoughtfully-designed spaces. But what often sets luxury hotels apart are the small touches, which can really enhance your stay.

Below are some of my favorite small touches from luxury hotels around the world.

The St. Regis Bora Bora Resort — Coffee delivered to your room every morning

My favorite small touch from a luxury hotel was at The St. Regis Bora Bora Resort, where you can simply dial “9” to reach your dedicated concierge each morning and, within 10 to 20 minutes, they’ll come to your room with your preferred type of coffee (or other morning drink, like tea or juice) and set it up either in your room or on your outdoor terrace.

As a big coffee drinker and someone who is a little slow to wake up in the morning, having coffee delivered directly to me at no additional charge was a fantastic way to start each day, and it felt truly luxurious. I also really appreciated that that the coffee selection wasn’t just limited to regular or iced coffee, and included my favorite morning drink, an iced latte.

Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam — Picking a scent for your room

View of the private garden at the Waldorf

The Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam is easily my favorite city hotel in the world, and if you ever have an opportunity to stay there, please take my advice and do it. While the hotel has many small touches throughout your stay that can make you feel pampered, my favorite was getting to pick a scent for my room at check-in, which the staff would use during turndown service.

On top of being able to pick your own scent during your stay, at checkout the hotel gives you a scented wax cameo of the scent you picked out, as a keepsake that you can bring home and remember your stay.

Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal — Daily chips, salsa, guacamole, and beer sent to your room

The Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal is beautiful resort, located in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, close to the famous “El Arco” rock formation.

Each room at the hotel comes with a private plunge pool which is amazing itself, but not something that I would consider a “small” touch. Instead, my favorite small touch offered by the hotel was complimentary chips, salsa, guacamole, and beer delivered to your room every afternoon. As a chips and salsa aficionado, I enjoyed coming back to my room for a free snack after a long day by the pool.

Honorable mention: Binoculars included in each room so you can whale watch from your terrace.

Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale – Complimentary sunglass cleaning by the pool

If you’ve ever been to Arizona, you know that sunglasses are a must-have. The staff at the Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale are well aware of this, and provided complimentary sunglass cleaning by the pool as part of your stay.

The last time I stayed at this hotel was in 2015, so I’m not sure if they still offer this service (particularly after COVID) — but it was a really nice small touch, particularly given how dusty sunglasses can get in the desert.

What are some small touches that you really appreciated from a luxury hotel?
